Thoughts Concerning Faithfulness To Church
One day a pastor was asked to define “Faithful Attendance at a retreat Worship Service,” I believe his reply is interesting: “All that I ask is that we apply the same standards of faithfulness to our church activities that we would in other areas of our life. That doesn't seem too much to ask, what do you think? Consider these examples:
• If your car started one out of three times, would you consider it faithful?
• If the paperboy skipped Monday and Thursdays, would they be missed?
• If you didn't show up at work two, three or four times a month, would your boss call you a faithful employee?
• If your refrigerator quit a day now and then, would you excuse it and say, ‘Oh, well, it works most of the time’?
• If your water heater greets you with cold water one or two mornings a week while you were in the shower, would it be faithful?
• If you miss a couple of mortgage payments on your home in a year's time, would your mortgage holder say, 'Oh, well, ten out of twelve isn't bad?'
If you miss worship and attend meetings only often enough to show you're interested but not often enough to really get involved, are you faithful?” Hebrews 10:25, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

ROMANS 1:1
WORD STUDY: δοῦλος (doulos) – Slave
Word Definition: (doulos); can have no other proper definition other than SLAVE, a man of servile condition. One who gives himself up to another’s will—those devoted to another to the disregard of one’s own interest. A Slave (doulos), used by Christ in extending and advancing His cause among men.
Romans 1:1, “Paul a servant/SLAVE (doulos) of Jesus Christ, called to be an Apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—”
A doulos of Christ Jesus: I like the way the Apostle Paul identifies himself in his epistles. In Romans 1:1, Philippians 1:1 and Titus 1:1, he begins each letter by referring to himself as "a servant or really, a SLAVE (doulos) of Christ Jesus". The English word servant just doesn't do the Greek term justice. Bondservant is better but still truly incomplete. The word in Greek is doulos. A doulos was truly a SLAVE who was the property of the SLAVE (doulos) master. The SLAVE (doulos) master (called kurios) bought the SLAVE (doulos) and thus had complete rights over the SLAVE (doulos). He could order the SLAVE (doulos) to do anything; he could even order the death of the SLAVE (doulos) at no penalty to himself. The doulos was like chattel.
Paul explains that all people are slaves (doulos). They are either slaves (doulos) to sin,or slaves (doulos) to righteousness.
Where do you stand?

ReplyDeleteI am thankful for your messages. I would love to encourage you Both in all you do!
What I saw in Abraham's departure is that he didn't leave the way he was told - apart from his kindred.
Also the moment Lot departed The Lord then showed Abraham what he was to be given.
Hopefully someday we can again sit down and enjoy a good cup of coffee and speak together of the things of God!
I will check in again with you later.
Are you saying to be a christian I have to come to your church, or any church? It is hard to find a good church?
ReplyDeleteI would come to your church, but I'm just to far away- I do enjoy and have been blessed by your teaching on the tube.
