Men Prepare Sermons; God Prepares Men

2nd Timothy 2:15

"The proper place for a ship to be is in the water, but if the water gets into the ship, the ship will sink. The proper place for the church is in the world,

BUT IF THE 'WORLD' GETS INTO THE CHURCH,

THE CHURCH WILL GO DOWN IN DISGRACE!"

Thank you for taking the time to view our blog;we look forward to reading your comments. DVDs of our services are available upon request. We covet your prayers and friendship. In His Service and For His Glory, Pastor Bill & Kathy ...
"Now fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness...But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve...But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."-Joshua 24:14-15

Is God Calling You to be a Pastor?

The right kind of education is essential to the man who has answered God's call. No army dare send a soldier into battle without proper training. The results would be devastating, not only for the warrior, but for the war.

Something Rotten

Judges 2:1-18

You disobeyed My command. Why did you do this? (v.2).

A friend of mine recently began searching for a good used car. When we went to check out a 2006 model, the vehicle looked good, pristine. But guess what? Looks can be deceiving, however. When my friend had his mechanic take a peek at the prospective purchase, he found some major transmission problems. If he had bought the car based solely on it’s appearance , it would have cost him thousands of dollars to fix.

Ancient Israel also tried to look good on the outside, but they definitely lacked something “UNDER THE HOOD”! Having professed undying loyalty to God and promising that they would serve Him in obedience (Joshua 24:21- 24), they did so only partly—not completely. In Judges 1, we read that the faithful “Lord was with the people” as they drove out the pagans and their idols from Canaan (vv.19,22). But, sadly, the people were DISOBEDIENT and didn’t complete the job. The word failed is used seven times to describe their lack of OBEDIENCE (vv.21-33).

In response, the angel of the Lord appeared before the Israelites and said, “You DISOBEYED My command. Why did you do this?” (2:2). Then he told the people that God would no longer help them in their clearing-of-the-land quest, and they “wept loudly” (vv.3-4). Again, their outward APPEARANCE of contrition looked mighty fine. But soon they “did evil in the Lord’s sight and served the images of Baal” (v.11). God, burning with HOLY ANGER, turned them “over to their enemies” (v.14). Something was rotten in Canaan—it was the hearts of God’s people. So He DISCIPLINED them in love, DESIRING that their hearts would be fully restored to Him.

What’s in your heart today? Are you FULLY COMMITTED to God or is there something ROTTEN within your heart that needs to be brought to Him in REPENTANCE?

ROMANS 1:1

WORD STUDY:  δοῦλος (doulos) – Slave

Word Definition: (doulos); can have no other proper definition other than SLAVE, a man of servile condition.  One who gives himself up to another’s will—those devoted to another to the disregard of one’s own interest.  A Slave (doulos), used by Christ in extending and advancing His cause among men.

Romans 1:1, “Paul a servant/SLAVE (doulos) of Jesus Christ, called to be an Apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—”

A doulos of Christ Jesus: I like the way the Apostle Paul identifies himself in his epistles. In Romans 1:1, Philippians 1:1 and Titus 1:1, he begins each letter by referring to himself as "a servant or really, a SLAVE (doulos) of Christ Jesus". The English word servant just doesn't do the Greek term justice. Bondservant is better but still truly incomplete. The word in Greek is doulos. A doulos was truly a SLAVE who was the property of the SLAVE (doulos) master. The SLAVE (doulos) master (called kurios) bought the SLAVE (doulos) and thus had complete rights over the SLAVE (doulos). He could order the SLAVE (doulos) to do anything; he could even order the death of the SLAVE (doulos) at no penalty to himself. The doulos was like chattel.

Paul explains that all people are slaves (doulos). They are either slaves (doulos) to sin,or slaves (doulos) to righteousness.

                     Where do you stand?
