HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

I believe a special day to look at the Fifth Commandment

It seems to me to be appropriate for Mother’s Day to take the Fifth Commandment, and make it fully theirs.  I do want you to know that this is in no way meant to detract from the centrality of mom in the home.  Neither am I endeavoring to bring the father in for a share of the tribute and honor that should go to mothers alone on this day.  I turn to this commandment because in it is embodied the very basis and essential significance of Mother’s Day.

From the very beginning of the church and family life, the church and the people of God have paid tribute to the high and noble estate of motherhood. While still in the Garden of Eden, a special recognition of mothers was made. Adam named his wife, and he called her “Eve” because as he said, “She is the mother of all living.”  Once again, immediately after their expulsion from the garden, mothers were brought to the forefront again, when God prophesized, “The seed of the woman shall bruise the serpent’s head.”

Someone has said, “When you tell the story of any great man, you must begin with his mother.”
As was the case of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, as well as his brother, the great hymn writer, Charles.  The love and influence of the mother is the central and supreme influence of the home, or it should be.  An old Chinese proverb expresses this most clearly with, “When a child goes away from home, he carries his mother’s hand with him.”

It is doubly significant that the one who was chosen to be a great influence in the life of the Lord Jesus as He was growing up was the one who brought Him into this world as a human baby, His mother.  She is the one who was with Him all the way from conception to the cross, and to His resurrection; During His boyhood and into His youth, He was subject to her as well as to Joseph.

What greater tribute could be paid to the dignity and sublimity of motherhood than this?
In the Fifth Commandment:  It is stated, “Honor thy father and thy mother,” I don’t believe that we would be at all in error to place the emphasis on, “honor thy mother,” because of the significance of this day we have set aside as Mother’s Day.  This Fifth Commandment stands as the first and fundamental statute in our duty to mankind.  Here, I believe, we have laid down for us, the very warp and woof of society in general, and of Christian society in specific.  The home was the place God chose as the proper place where His Son was to be raised, free to be loved, to love, to interact with community; free from government control.  He chose the nurturing, instruction and discipline of the home as the place where His Son should grow and develop into perfect manhood.

The home is very important.  The tragedy of our day is, the home in many cases, has become peripheral and not central in the life and training of our children and young people.

This commandment to: “Honor thy father and thy mother” is not an arbitrary command. It is the most natural, reasonable necessity of society. If any man or woman has a right to our honor, it is our parents.  Think of the love and care that they have given to us throughout our infant days and on!  Think of the expense, time and effort they so generously gave.

This is especially true of mothers. In time of sickness or injury, she would drop everything to care for us, her children.  Not only is it the parent’s right to receive honor, this is also best for the child. The real purpose of the Fifth Commandment is not to safeguard the honor of parents; it is rather for the sake of the children.  Children are happier and safer if they obey and honor their parents. The Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 6, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. Honor thy father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise.”

Let’s use this day as a reminder to love and honor our mother. Start today going forward, and make this a part of our everyday reminder to remember her. Let us this day and all proceeding days pay tribute to this special, special lady we call our mother.  Amen’

PRAYER REQUESTS AND PRAISE REPORTS

Pray for:  Todd, that he continues to visit Mayo Clinic regarding his health.

Pray for:  Lori King, wife of Doug, who is the son of Dal and Carrie King.  Doug and Lori are the parents of two young children, Violet and Miles.  After meeting with a neurologist they have scheduled surgery to remove the mass on Lori's brain.  The surgery will take place on June 7th.  The mass, about the size of a golf ball, is on the right hand side on top of the brain (relatively good place).  Lori is on an anti-seizure medication and should be able to function ok until the surgery.

Pray for:  Pastor Bill as he has a follow up appointment with his doctor June 1st.

Pray for: Our annual ministry circuit as we will be traveling through the country meeting face to face with our ministry partners.

Prayer and Praise: For George and Valerie Martinez that their health is improving, and that it will continue to improve.

Pray for: Our Missionaries, as they labor for the Lord.

Pray that: It would be understood, that alone, as an individual, you are not the Church, not Until We, as Believers, Gather Together in His Name, as a Congregation, do we become a Church; the Bride of Christ! COME TO CHURCH! Hebrews 10: 24-25.

Praise for: The fear has subsided in our land; in our nation, state and city, as our trust once again is turned to the God of all creation.  FEAR NOT!  For I am with you says the Lord God! 

PRAY FOR: The many that are unsaved, in and around Valley Farms. Rebuke, and hold back the ungodly cult of Mormonism. These people who have turned their backs on the true Jesus, and there-fore are by no means saved, but are on their way to an Eternity in HELL!

PRAY FOR: Salvation for OUR PRESIDENT and VICE PRESIDENT.

PRAY THAT: All who claim to know Jesus as Lord and Savior would start to live as if He is Real in their lives and will be willing to pay the one debt, we all owe for our Salvation; that is the debt of LOVE to the Lord Jesus (Romans 13:8)!

PRAY FOR ALL CONCERNED: As Pastor Bill teaches God's Word (1 Timothy 2:2). As he teaches the Truth of God's word and rebukes all false gospels. Pray that many would respond to the Truth of God's Word in love and truth.

SALVATION: Not only to Eternity in Heaven, but from Eternity in Hell! You MUST, first of all: Humble yourself and Admit You Are a Sinner in Need of a Savior:

* Mark 1:15 "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

•James 2:10 “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.”

•Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

•Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Accept God’s Love through the/Sacrifice in His Son Jesus

•Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Turn to God in Repentance

•Acts 20:21 “solemnly testifying to both Jews and Greeks of repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Trust the Fullness Jesus Christ!

•Romans 10:9 “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;"

•Romans 10:13 “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

•Romans 10:14 “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?"

•Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ."

•Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek Me (God) and find Me when you search for Me with all your (being) heart.”

It may not be easy to give up your old sinful ways, and turn in faith to Jesus Christ; but it is the ONLY way to SALVATION, AND IT IS WORTH IT!

 CALL UPON (THE FULLNESS OF) THE NAME OF JESUS AND YOU WILL BE SAVED!
