Commandment Four - Exodus 20:8-11

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord Blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.”

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

1.  “You shall have no other gods before Me.”
2.  "You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
3.  "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain."
4.  "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy."

Suicide - Are there answers?

Psalm 91:14-16 

"Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation."

There are so many reports of ministers committing suicide or trying to commit suicide. 

Suicide comes from more than a failure to trust God. It is the result of severe mental illness or a desperate feeling of hopelessness that even the Christian sometimes feels is beyond the help of God. Personally, I believe nothing is impossible with God. However, to the person battling mental illness the sky becomes so dark that eventual light and hope seems impossible. Let's please pray, support and help each other in the Lord's work. No one is perfect. Jesus, had his disciples, who often could not rise to the occasion to watch and pray with him. However, he wanted them to be with him in prayer. Matthew 26.40 "So could you not watch with me one hour?" If Jesus needed the fellowship of prayer and watchfulness we all surely need it even more. However, prayer, support, encouragement and true teammates involve transparency that sadly most ministers do not feel they can afford. I want to encourage you today to allow others in the ministry to be real with you and you likewise. Jesus was human and divine. Don't pretend only his divinity lives within you. 

Billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, recently hanged himself in prison. With a lifetime of prison ahead of him he chose suicide over going through another trial, more accusations and a lifetime behind bars.

When comedian Robin Williams killed himself, we were shocked. Williams had been dealing with depression for many years and his mental illness overcame him. 

Millions were stunned when television personality Anthony Bourdain was found dead after reportedly hanging himself in France. To many of us it seemed he had the perfect life. He traveled, ate the best food and was rich and famous. 

Suicide happens to people at every level. Pastor Jarrid Wilson, a California church leader, author and mental health advocate, died by suicide. At the age of 30 he had a great ministry, was well loved and had a precious family. All of his knowledge and personal tools of the Christian faith did not help him to overcome his depression and mental state. 

In 2017 there were 47,173 recorded suicides, up from 42,773 in 2014. The U.S. suicide rate increased 24% between 1999 and 2014, from 10.5 to 13.0 suicides per 100,000 people, which was the highest rate in 28 years according to the National Center for Health Statistics. 

Why do people commit suicide? My first wife tried. After being on a respirator for three days the first words she said to me after being taken off life support were, "why didn't you let me die?" Karen had severe Multiple Sclerosis. She was totally debilitated and could do nothing for herself, except think. As a prisoner in her own body she believed that suicide was her hope of escape. Sadly, two years later she died in a nursing home which was a place she had hoped to escape. 

For most, suicide is the hope of escaping what seems to be impossible. There are many reasons why some people kill themselves. Sometimes they think it's their way of having the final word in a failed relationship. Sometimes it's their way of saying, "I told you that things were bad in my life." However, almost always suicide results from mental illness. Some people think and talk about it for a long time and finally go through with it. For some people they commit suicide at a dark moment in their lives when it appears the only way out is death.

What is the answer? People must stay connected to a few real meaningful relationships in life. Suicide victims feel alone. People need people they can safely be real with without harsh condemnation for everything they do. This is why some churches and ministers often fail in relationship building. Phony surface friendships aren't the answer. Next, help such as counseling and reasonable medication are often crucial. Talking to someone who has been trained and is able to help you is important. Hope is imperative. It's hard to imagine that media personalities such as Robin Williams and Anthony Bourdain felt hopeless but to them it was on another scale. One person's mental state of hopelessness is not the same for another. This is why people need help in ciphering through the fog of their minds to make sense of their mess and to see a light at the end of the tunnel of their desperation. Prayer, meditation, spiritual direction, counseling, medication, group support, work, activity, hobbies, going to school and plans are all tools in the fight against mental illness and suicide. 

Be attentive to the people in your life. Give love, understanding, hope and be helpful. Care enough to talk, listen and be a friend.

PRAY FOR: Doug, a close friend of our friend Jeff up in Minnesota (more like our son), fell on Friday and broke his back. Please keep Doug and his family in your prayers. He will be going through a series of operations. THANKS!

PRAISE! VICTOR is back home recovering from a heart attack.  Continue to keep him in your prayers for a speedy recovery.  Pray for the family.

PRAISE/PRAY FOR: Carol, Kathy's sister. Carol is doing better.  She is in a rehab center getting stronger and receiving some physical therapy.

PRAY FOR:  Continue to pray for Todd as he serves the Lord. 

PRAY FOR:  Keep Rick in your prayers.

PRAY FOR ERIC:  Update from Eric - Been very busy medically the last 2 weeks. I have been discussing my work situation with my doctors and said that I can't maintain what I am doing and need to see if i can go on some sort of short term disability. They agreed and gave me a note to stay out of work until Nov 1. I had occupational medicine examine me from Atlantic Health and they agreed, so the short term insurance company is reviewing it and I should officially be on disability this Friday. 
The reason for Nov 1 is because we are 1 or 2 tests away from getting an official diagnosis of "Sarcoidosis" and the treatment typically takes 6 weeks to go through the process. For whatever reason, it seams like these 2 weeks have been tougher than the rest maybe because I am hopeful that this time it will be the right direction, which it does seem to be. I've been lost for so long that I have forgotten what normal is, but hopefully this will pull me a little bit closer to normal. Thats my story. I have an ultrasound scheduled today in regard to blood clot from last year(not sure why that was scheduled), and on Monday Sept 23 a BRONCHOSCOPY ENDOBRONCHIAL ULTRASOUND which is to get a biopsy of a lympnode in my lung to better conclude the diagnosis of sarcoid.

PRAY FOR: Please keep Fred, Debbie and the medical team in your prayers. .

PRAY FOR: Doug Beeks as he ministers through his Blue Line Ministry.

PRAY FOR: Phyllis, for her health 

PRAY FOR: Virginia Perry who is 84 and loosing her sight.

PRAY FOR: Barbra Ruesch, who is dealing with cancer. Our dear friend Barb is the wife of our friend and CCRM Lead Chaplain Bob Ruesch.  

PRAY FOR: The many in and around Valley Farms who are trapped in the ungodly cult of Mormonism and have turned their backs on the true Jesus, and there-fore are not saved, and are on their way to HELL! 

PRAY FOR:  OUR PRESIDENT and VICE PRESIDENT.  

PRAY THAT: All who claim to  know Jesus as Lord and Savior would start to live as if He is Real in their lives, and  will be willing to pay the one debt we all owe for our Salvation; that is the debt of LOVE to the Lord Jesus (Romans 13:8)! 

PRAY FOR ALL CONCERNED: As Pastor Bill teaches God's Word (1 Timothy 2:2). As he teaches the Truth of God's word, and rebukes all false gospel. Pray that many would respond to the Truth of God's Word in love and truth.

•Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

•Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Accept God’s Love through the/Sacrifice in His Son Jesus

•Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Turn to God in Repentance

•Acts 20:21 “I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.”

Trust the Fullness Jesus Christ!

•Romans 10:9 “…if you confess with your mouth Jesus as  Lord,  and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved;”

•Romans 10:13 “For whoever calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

•Romans 10:14 “How then shall they call on Him Who they have not believed?  And how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard?  And how shall they hear without a preacher?

•Romans 10:17 “So then Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.”

•Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek Me (God) and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”

It may not be easy to give up your old sinful ways, and turn in faith to Jesus Christ; but it is the only way to  SALVATION,  AND IT IS WORTH IT! 

 CALL UPON (THE FULLNESS OF) THE NAME OF JESUS AND YOU WILL BE SAVED!
