Men Prepare Sermons; God Prepares Men

2nd Timothy 2:15

"The proper place for a ship to be is in the water, but if the water gets into the ship, the ship will sink. The proper place for the church is in the world,

BUT IF THE 'WORLD' GETS INTO THE CHURCH,

THE CHURCH WILL GO DOWN IN DISGRACE!"

"Now fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness...But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve...But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."-Joshua 24:14-15

Is God Calling You to be a Pastor?

The right kind of education is essential to the man who has answered God's call. No army dare send a soldier into battle without proper training. The results would be devastating, not only for the warrior, but for the war.

A TRUTH ABOUT GOD! Exodus 20:7

John 8:32 “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Did you know that God is greatly offended when His Name is misused?  God let’s us know through His name many of His attributes'.  His name is a revelation of who He is.  In every Name that He calls Himself, God, has made Himself known. God has made himself known by revealing to us, some of the many attributes of His Divine character.  So, misusing the Name of God, is, of course, a very offensive affront to His very character.

So, you may ask, “what are some of the ways that we  misuse God’s name?”  Well, it happens each time we Attach His name to profanity in any way! Or, when we use “my God” or “my Lord” or “Jesus Christ” as a way of expressing our Shock, Dismay, Surprise, Elation, or, it could be just a word casually injected into our conversation. Or, even when we’ve used His name in any way, frivolously or disrespectfully. It may also be, when we praise God in our songs without truly meaning what we say, or uttering His name  insincerely.

You can be sure that the honoring of His name is important to God. We may have even misused His name through some of our actions and deeds. When we, as  believers in Jesus live like unbelievers in the world, we treat His name with disrespect. As we choose to live by the world’s standards, we give the world an occasion to blaspheme the good name of the Lord God  (Romans 2:24), “The Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you”.

The way we handle God’s name is truly a reflection of our love for Him, our esteem for Him, and our true relationship with Him.

We should read and head Exodus 20:7, “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who missuses His name.”

So, the question Must Be Asked; Why do so many people choose to blaspheme God so disrespectfully by misusing His name? Yet, have the guts to  ask,  “why is our country in such a mess”!

The Church is a Life Boat,

Not a Showboat

On a dangerous seacoast where shipwrecks often occur there was once a crude little lifesaving station. The building was just a hut, and there was only one boat, but the few devoted members kept a constant watch over the sea, and with no thought for themselves, they went out day or night tirelessly searching for the lost. Many lives were saved by this wonderful little station, so that it became famous.

Some of those who were saved, and various others in the surrounding areas, wanted to become associated with the station and give of their time and money and effort for the support of its work. New boats were bought and new crews were trained. The little lifesaving station grew.

Some of the new members of the lifesaving station were unhappy that the building was so crude and so poorly equipped. They felt that a more comfortable place should be provided as the first refuge of those saved from the sea. They replaced the emergency cots with beds and put better furniture in an enlarged building. Now the lifesaving station became a popular gathering place for its members, and they redecorated it beautifully and furnished it as a sort of club.

Less of the members were now interested in going to sea on lifesaving missions, so they hired life boat crews to do this work. The mission of lifesaving was still given lip-service but most were too busy or lacked the necessary commitment to take part in the lifesaving activities personally.

About this time a large ship was wrecked off the coast, and the hired crews brought in boat loads of cold, wet and half-drowned people. They were dirty and sick, some had skin of a different color, some spoke a strange language, and the beautiful new club was considerably messed up. So the property committee immediately had a shower house built outside the club where victims of shipwreck could be cleaned up before coming inside.

At the next meeting, there was a split in the club membership. Most of the members wanted to stop the club's lifesaving activities as being unpleasant and a hindrance to the normal pattern of the club. But some members insisted that lifesaving was their primary purpose and pointed out that they were still called a lifesaving station. But they were finally voted down and told that if they wanted to save the life of all various kinds of people who were shipwrecked in those waters, they could begin their own lifesaving station down the coast. They did.

As the years went by, the new station experienced the same changes that had occurred in the old. They evolved into a club and yet another lifesaving station was founded. If you visit the seacoast today you will find a number of exclusive clubs along that shore. Shipwrecks are still frequent in those waters, but now most of the people drown!

(Pray that we may always be a life saving station.)
