Cactus, Palm Trees, and Snow!

On New Years Eve the snow line in Arizona dropped to the 2,000 ft. level. As we live at 1,400 feet, on New Years Day we set out to find this unusual sight of Cactus and Palm Trees and Snow.

In less than 30 miles from home we started to see the desert floor turning white.

A few more miles, as we come to Gonzales Pass,  we get a  breath taking view of mountain peaks that are normally brown, are now pure white with snow.

Making our way, passing the Boyce Thompson State Park, we get another breath taking view of the snow covered peaks to the east.

All along US 60, to the North and East of Apache Junction we see cactus in the snow, an unusual beauty for us to see here in the Sonoran Desert.

Some took advantage of this rare opportunity and stopped to do some snow sledding with their families.

    Saw a pretty picture of snow in the Grand Canyon. I guess you don’t have any in Coolidge but I saw a snow picture from Superstition Mountains. We got about three inches this weekend.
