Is God Calling You to be a Pastor?

The right kind of education is essential to the man who has answered God's call. No army dare send a soldier into battle without proper training. The results would be devastating, not only for the warrior, but for the war.

As the year 2013 ends, it finds me and Kathy once more enjoying a quiet time of sitting by the fireplace anticipating the beginning of another year, and with great expectations as to what the Lord will do in this upcoming year. As we give thanks to Him for His many blessings.

100_5363Once again, the year has flown by, more fleeting each year. This year found us with the challenge of being called to plant a church ministry in Valley Farms, AZ. In our time of meetings and processing much paperwork, it was now time for the Community Church to take up residency in Valley Fa100_6295rms. We had our relocation Ribbon Cutting on November 19, 2013, thanks to all who came out. We are excited with the attendance, and the anticipation of what the Lord has in store at Valley Farms.

It was in June, that we made a trip back to Up State New York, and New Hampshire to witness the wedding of our grandson Joseph, to his beautiful bride, Morisah. We took some time to visit with our son Jim, his wife Jodie and other family members, including our son Eric, and his children Tori and Christopher, what a joy. Later this year we became involved with helping to get “The Hope Women’s Center” up and running, we continue to support this ministry with our prayers and gifts. In October Todd Ovitt was appointed as Assistant Pastor at Community Christian Church, we are thanking the Lord for His blessings. We are humbled, yet excited, that the Lord would entrust us with this task of pastoring the lone church in Valley Farms, Thank you Jesus.

In No1785879-4706831-859-Hvember, we made a trip to the Seattle, WA area to assist and support our sons Jim and Eric in some decisions they needed to make. During this visit, the three of us took the time to take Kathy to the top of the “Space Needle” for her birthday (Nov. 6th) lunch. It was a good time all around.

We are now back in Coolidge, getting ready for Christmas and the New Year. Looking forward to what the Lord has for us, what an exciting time to be living, to be able to witness God’s work first hand in the affairs of men and women, here and throughout the world, knowing that His return for His Church could be any moment. Blessed be the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

On our way out to a NCCChurch retreat in Indiana in September, we stopped by Searcy, Arkansas for a visit with sister-in-law Shirley Perry. On our way back home to Arizona, we stopped by Parker, CO for a few days with Ronnie, Jennifer and Kiley. To say the least, we were ecstatic to hear that our grand-daughter Kiley wanted to be baptized, PRAISE THE LORD for His Love. We are now starting to get excited, anticipating our up and coming trip to the Holy Land, planned for the last 2 weeks of January 2014. We have been praying, and looking forward to this trip for the last 5 years, praise the Lord, it is nearly at our door.

In July Pastor Bill was appointed to the city of Coolidge’s “Personnel Advisory Board”, and had the opportunity to preside over some city activities. We have also enjoyed Fred & Debbie’s visits from time to time, out from California, and are now, also, enjoying our “Snow Bird” friends returning to Arizona, WELCOME BACK!

As we approach the end of the year, and move into 2014, we are looking forward to getting to know the Lord in a deeper way, as we continue to “Preach the Word; Love the People.” It has been truly a full year for us as the Lord continues to use us, as we make ourselves fully available to His direction, so that He may use us in whatever way He sees fit. We are His!

May we forever keep in mind that Jesus Christ is the REASON FOR THE SEASON!clip_image016  MERRY CHRISTMAS!

THE TRUE REASON FOR THE SEASON

Church01

Church03

The Children Sing “Away in the Manger” Lord Bless the Children!

A PLACE OF POVERTY!

In a Gallup Poll, “Away in a Manger” was voted the second most popular carol. Although, cattle being present at Jesus’ birth or Jesus not crying isn’t mentioned in the Bible. The carol depicts some deep theological truths.

In Luke 2:7 we are told that “Mary gave birth to her [ first] child, a son. She wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him an animal’s feed trough, and there was no room for them in the Inn”, Why would Luke mention that Jesus was placed in a feeding trough for animals? Why a manger?

The song “Away in a Manger” reveals His lowly birth, from Heavens glory into poverty. The King of kings, placed not in splendor, but a manger of hay. Paul commented in 2 Corinthians 8 :9,  “Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich”.

“Away in a Manger” declares that Jesus, at His birth is fully God, yet fully human; He experienced life’s trials and tragedies. “It was necessary for him to experience life in every respect like us . . . so that he could . . . offer Himself as the sacrifice, perfect, to take away [our] sins . . . He faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin” (Hebrews 2:17-18, 4:15).

“Away in a Manger” says this world had no room for Jesus. Not much has changed in 2,000 years. Jesus is rejected today by many, My prayer is that He find room in our heart, not only for this season, but for eternity.

“Go Tell It to Everyone”

Think of how  excited it is to tell someone a story of an adventure or an ordeal you’ve had, or lived through? Or how we are moved by an event or a story that we just heard from with someone else.

Think of some of the stories that you’ve heard all of your life. You know, the ones that told and retold, from  one generation to the next, the ones that seem to  resonate in such deep, meaningful ways. They can inspire us.

In His birth to his death adventurer,  Jesus’ life is one that compels us to tell and retell our experiences with Him. The Gospel story is referred to as the “good news” and that is true,  but we, as  followers of Christ, know that it is the very best news.  It is a story that continues to resonate with us today.

The story of Jesus is the beginning of the greatest story ever told. Wise men come to hear it, Shepherds (every-day persons), are moved by it, as they run to tell everyone who will listen. The Gospel of Luke reads, “When they had seen Him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this Child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them” (Luke 2:17-18).

We can tell the impact of the story, by how the story is shared. You see, the story is still true, so we continue to share this story, as it moves us day after day. Let’s never forget that this season is about, realizing once more, telling this incredible old old story of the birth of Jesus in a fresh way –  moving us to share it with others, with the wonder and energy of those who were on the scene in those early days.

This Christmas season, may we, find ourselves moved by the ultimate gift of Love and share the joy with others.

                                                Deloris-Our Friend!
100_6293
This week we stopped by for a visit with our friend Deloris, who now resides in Casa Grande, in an extended living facility (our neighbor from HO HO KAM), What a blessing this wonderful Saint is to me and Kathy.

Jesus, What a Savior!

Just think, if Jesus hadn’t come down and entered our world as Savior, at least two things would be true. First, there would be no justice, and those with the most power would  win. In ancient times, it was those with the most camels, wives, or gold. Today it  also includes those with the most cash, toys, or, even to some, it’s their number of Facebook friends. Either way the goal is the same: Get all you can while you can.

This competition to get ahead is a distraction to us from the second, more obvious truth we would face without Jesus: In the end everybody loses. No matter how hard you try, you’re done for when you die. And if death were to be the end of our existence,(and it’s not), then we might as well “eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die!” (1 Corinthians 15:32). It’s actually worse than that; Death is not the end, if Jesus had not come we would all be condemned to pay for our sins in the endless torment of HELL (Hebrews 9:27-28). We would cry out for a death that would never come.

But Praise His Name, Jesus has come! And we need to know that He didn’t enter our world just  to offer warm handshakes, and a big howdy all around. He didn’t come to slap us on the back and say, “Looks like things are under control. Keep up the good work!” No way, as Mary sang, that her Son came to turn our world upside down. As is stated in Luke 1:51-53, He “has brought down princes . . . and exalted the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands”

The rules have not changed. Life is still not about you collecting the most “things” before you die. Jesus tells us in Matt. 16:24-25, “Turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it”

Mercy Beyond Measure!

At times we are prone to wrong someone, and when we do, it is normal for us to back off and become distant in our shame. We might imagine that the person we offended is replaying our thoughtless conduct over and over. It could happen in human relationships, but If we imagine God to be this way, we would be severely mistaken.

Luke 15:12 recounts the story of a prodigal son as he asked his father for his portion of his inheritance, now. He made this request while his father was still in good health. The father “agreed to divide his wealth between his sons”.

You recall, the son ran to the “far country” and wasted all that his father had given him. A famine came, and the son was destitute. He now made his way back to his father with a groveling speech prepared. But the father had been waiting and watching for the son! As he got a glimpse of his boy coming home, he ran toward him, embraced him, and  forgive him.

To some, the father’s actions would be seen as foolish. But this good father (like our heavenly Father) had no ego to protect. The Father’s mercy is free.

What an example for ALL fathers, to be willing to extend love and mercy and forgiveness freely toward our children.

1 John 1:9. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us of all unrighteous.”
