The Strength of True Love

John 13:34 “A new command I give you:  Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Some years ago while I was pastoring a small church in upstate New York a young woman in the congregation was diagnosed with breast cancer, quite severe, and her doctor felt no choice but to do a complete mastectomy.  On the day after the surgery, she awoke and what she saw in her mirror was unsettling, and was a blow to her self-esteem that was deep and profound.  To compound her upset of dealing with the loss of her breast, she saw in her mirror how her hair was matted and her face swollen from her reaction to the antibiotics.  

One day during her hospital stay, her young husband came into the room, at this time she burst into tears.  As he tried to console her with a kiss  to her forehead, she pulled back and said “how can you stand to look at me.” “Look at what I look like,” she moaned through her sobs.

Immediately he left the room and was gone for about 15 minutes.  He returned with a cart of shampoo, creams, and lotions.  He picked her up in his arms, carried her to the sink, and sat her down on his lap.  Then leaning her head back over the sink, he washed her hair.  He used a comb and combed out her hair.  He then used a hair dryer and blew it dry.  Then, carefully, he applied her makeup the best he could.

She looked at herself in the same mirror that had earlier sent her into convulsions of vanity, and saw someone she recognized; herself.  She was back again.  All because her husband had loved her well through those crucial moments when her world had been crumbling around her.   

Today, even though this woman’s experience with breast cancer qualifies as perhaps the lowest point in her life, one of her favorite moments from all of her marriage has become those few precious moments in her hospital room when her husband loved her in a way any woman would have understood.

1 Peter 3:7 “Husbands in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives………...”

PRAYER REQUESTS AND PRAISE REPORTS

PRAY/PRAISE FOR CHUM:  Chum has been doing okay.  He will get a chest x-ray next week to follow-up on the lung cancer.  They will follow-up with x-rays for the next few months, then he will have a CT Scan of the chest and MRI of the brain in another couple of months.  Right now he is stable.  Still trying to get his strength back from the chemo, etc., but he's doing ok.  Thank God.

PRAY:  Michele was doing great, but now she just found out that the cancer has spread to the other side of the brain.  She will be going in for full brain radiation.  She's already had five brain surgeries.  So she needs more prayers.  We haven't stopped praying, but now she needs extra prayer.

PRAISE FOR: Frankie's daughter Carla who fell and brook her leg, and has to have a hip replacement. She is recovering nicely at home.

PRAY FOR: Eric for his work situation.  His eyes are getting better, but his ears are getting worse.  Please continue to pray. 

PRAY: We would keep the pulpit of the Community Christian Church Sacred and free from the Profane.

PRAY FOR: Pastor Bill and the Leadership team of the Community Christian Church of Valley Farms to maintain a Separation between the Profane ( the Secular) and the Pure (the Spiritual) ; between the Holy and the Unholy; protecting the Sanctity and Purity of the Pulpit as the place where the TRUTH OF GOD'S WORD is PROCLAIMED! 

PRAY FOR: The ones in our church who are caught up in the sin of alcohol   (drinking),  and   tobacco (smoking), that they would be released from Satan's snare.

PRAY/ PRAISE: For Assistant Pastor Todd, as he continues with his studies into the Master's of Divinity program at Seminary. Give him wisdom Lord!

PRAY: For Fred, as he prepare for graduation in June, with a BS degree in the Pastoral Leadership program at Seminary. Also as he prepares for Ordination, That the Lord will Solidify his calling into Your service. 

PRAY FOR: Wisdom for our President and his joint chiefs as they consider North Korea and their NUCLEAR threat!

PRAISE THE LORD: For the His sure PRESCRIPTION for fixing any discouragement. It is The Lord Jesus, as He acts through our friends and loved ones-Thank you Lord for your love.

PRAY FOR: The many in Arizona, in and around Valley Farms who are trapped in the ungodly cult of Mormonism and have turned their back on the true Jesus, and there-fore are not saved, and are on their way to HELL!

PRAY FOR: The True  Church of Jesus Christ (NOT THE MORMONS) TO NOT give in to the pressure from the world for Spiritual Correctness, ( that we would confront the make-believer who claims to be believers with the true Gospel of Jesus Christ). The Lord has not given a License to Sin! 

PRAY FOR:  OUR PRESIDENT and VICE PRESIDENT,  THEY NEED THE LORD'S HELP!!  

PRAY THAT: All who are attending the Community Christian Church, as well as all who have ever attended- The Lord Jesus knows who you are, and He knows your needs. We pray that He will meet your every need. If your need is Salvation, and you have not yet accepted the Lord's invitation to join His family of believers by being born again, I pray that today will be the day you make that decision..

PRAY THAT: All who know Jesus as Lord and Savior would start to live as if they do, and  will be willing to pay the one debt we owe for our Salvation; that is the debt of LOVE (Romans 13:8)! 

PRAY THAT:  All men who are called into the pastorate would see the need to study to gain advanced Training into a deeper and broader  understanding of the LORD JESUS CHRIST & the Holy Bible (2 Timothy 2:15)

PRAY FOR: Pastor Bill as he teaches God's Word (1 Timothy 2:2).  Also that the congregation would encourage him, and continue to love and encourage one another ( John 13:34).

HAVE YOU FELT LIKE GIVING UP LATELY? DON’T!

       Nearly a century ago, Christians were concerned about the “Social Gospel”. Instead of being a lighthouse for lost souls, the Church during those years, became a soup kitchen.

      Now, in the first part of the 21st century, Christians need to become aware of, and concerned about the “Culture Gospel”. Instead of being an oasis for the spiritually desperate, the Church in America is becoming a play house of cultural relevancy.

     Traditional forms of worship are disappearing as if they were dinosaurs. An atmosphere of reverence in the church is all but extinct. An expectation that people attend church services dressed respectfully for the occasion, is frowned upon by many Churches as archaic and old fashioned – as if there is something wrong with being old fashioned.

       Positive thinking won’t make these problems go away and “confessing” that these problems don’t really exist doesn’t change a thing.. So, What is the cure?

     There is a very simple answer:  Keeping our focus on Jesus Christ.  The Church has forgotten to "keep the main thing the main thing".  The Church that used to be focused on God and Jesus Christ, is now, in far too many cases, focused on itself.  

     We must remember that:  "the proper place for a ship to be is in the water, but if the water gets into the ship, the ship will sink.  The proper place for the Church is in the world, but if the 'world' gets into the church, the church will go down in disgrace."
