Men Prepare Sermons; God Prepares Men

2nd Timothy 2:15

"The proper place for a ship to be is in the water, but if the water gets into the ship, the ship will sink. The proper place for the church is in the world,

BUT IF THE 'WORLD' GETS INTO THE CHURCH,

THE CHURCH WILL GO DOWN IN DISGRACE!"

Thank you for taking the time to view our blog;we look forward to reading your comments. DVDs of our services are available upon request. We covet your prayers and friendship. In His Service and For His Glory, Pastor Bill & Kathy ...
"Now fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness...But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve...But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."-Joshua 24:14-15

Is God Calling You to be a Pastor?

The right kind of education is essential to the man who has answered God's call. No army dare send a soldier into battle without proper training. The results would be devastating, not only for the warrior, but for the war.

A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

POWER OF FORGIVENESS

What must I do to follow God? Love others? Absolutely. Sell your possessions and give the money to the poor? Done. What about forgiving the person who wronged me? Hmm. Now, that’s a tough one. Are you sure I have to?

JESUS SAID SO, TWICE. The Lord’s Prayer implores God to “forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us” (Matthew 6:12). To make sure we get the point, Jesus told a story about a forgiven servant who refused to forgive others. His master was so incensed that he “sent the man to prison to be tortured.” And that, Jesus said, is “what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart” (18:34).

So why is it so hard to forgive? We struggle because forgiveness doesn’t seem fair, and it doesn’t seem right. After all they did, they shouldn’t be able to just apologize and have everything suddenly be okay. Forgiveness feels as if they’re “getting away with it.” It may seem that we are the ones being victimized again.

(NOW, THE REST OF THE STORY)

Psalm 130 offers help for any of us who struggle to forgive. First, it is true, we must offer forgiveness to those who wronged us, true reconciliation comes through forgiveness (and) repentance. We can see that the psalmist takes responsibility for his sin and has therefore prepared himself to be reconciled with God (vv.1-3).

FULL FORGIVENNESS CAN’T OCCUR WITHOUT FULL REPENTANCE (NO REPENTANCE-NO FORGIVENES).

Second, notice that it’s God Himself who set the example for us. We see in v.4, that God  first  “[offered] forgiveness”. We were at His mercy. But He chose to extend mercy and grace to us, though it came at a high cost—the death of His Son. Forgiveness rarely comes easily, but it may help to remember that it’s a sign of true love and grace.

FORGIVENESS = Forgiveness in my heart, that is released toward another, by and through repentance.  read Psalm 130

THE QUESTION OF THE MONTH

“Can you be a follower of Jesus, and NOT follow Jesus?  AND, If you’re NOT a follower of Christ, are you a Christian?

SORRY-SORRY- SORRY.

In the wake of numerous public confessions by fallen politicians, sports figures, and business executives, Paul Wilkes references Susan Wise Bauer’s helpful distinction: “An apology is an expression of regret: I am sorry. A confession is an admission of fault: I am sorry because I did wrong. I sinned.” Wilkes goes on: “Apology addresses an audience. Confession implies an inner change...that will be manifested in outward action.”

It’s not enough for a believer to only regret or to simply be sorry for the effects of sin. When our sorrow does not lead to God-centered transformation, it becomes self-pity and unproductive grief, and it leads to death. When a believer exhibits godly sorrow, he accepts the rebuke of God’s Word, realizes that he has transgressed His standard, humbly admits his failure, and turns back to God’s standards and service. 2 Corinthians 7:5-13

It is this kind of sorrow that God wants us to experience. This leads us away from sin and results in salvation, there is truly no regret for that kind of sorrow. But..,on the other hand,  worldly sorrow...results in spiritual death (v.10).

Obituary:

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved friend, Common Sense.

Common Sense, who has been a comfort to us, and a good friend for many years has “passed.”. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.We do know he has encouraged us, and given us hope. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;

- Why the early bird gets the worm;

- Life isn't always fair;

- And maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death,

-by his parents, Truth and Trust,

-by his wife, Discretion,

-by his daughter, Responsibility,

-and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers;

- I Know My Rights

- I Want It Now

- Someone Else Is To Blame

- I'm A Victim

- Pay me for Doing Nothing

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

If you are one of the few, as I am who still remember him, please say a prayer for our nation, because, without him, our nation will be hard pressed to survive.

FAMILY LIFE! (CHURCH/HEALTH)

Thousands of studies conducted over the last three decades indicate that religious faith and the behaviors that typically accompany it (such as prayer and belonging to a faith community) can aid in recovery from physical illness and from surgery, decrease risk of certain diseases and increase life expectancy. By trusting in the One who cares infinitely about us, and by enjoying the support of fellow believers, our minds and bodies are better able to respond to stresses that can contribute to physical problems (like heart disease) or which can hinder healing.

In addition, religious belief typically leads to avoidance of risky behaviors like substance abuse, producing other health benefits.

While having a relationship with God through Christ obviously isn't a guarantee that you'll never face health problems, the demonstrated health benefit of faith is just one more way that the Lord takes care of those who put their trust in Him. Have you consulted with the Great Physician today?
